Shadow Shot Sunday Baby Romaine

Here's a row of baby romaine lettuce. This is how it looked in June.

It was looking good. I'm guessing you've eaten it now? I bet it was tasty!

RE your comment about not many people in my shots: Parliament House was closed due to interior renovations so not many people around at that time :)

Yes, they were good!

I've been picking off leaves as the plants grow rather than wait for each plant to form a head. So the plants have grown tall and have started to flower. I've just topped them off, and am waiting for them to put their energy back into producing leaves. I think I'll have more in September and October.

What beautiful babies you have there. How do you keep the rabbits away from the garden? I'm trying to grow tomatoes and the squirrels are making me want to set off an atomic bomb.

Hi CG!

We do have rabbits, but I have a wire fence around the garden. Also, our dog comes out at least twice per day to patrol the area. Maybe the rabbits are repelled by our dog's scent. (I know I find his stinkiness to be bad sometimes!)

Squirrels don't seem to be interested. This year, even the bird feeder is clear of them. But slugs and bettles do nibble on things, especially the lettuce and basil.
