Hey Square Peg. I was rereading your "about you". I hadn't realized you were an electrical engineer. Do you fix everything around the house that breaks and always perservere? I'm married to an elect. engineer and just love that he can fix everything.

Now your weight information posted as "data" makes sense too--wink.

Hi Kerry:

Thanks for asking.

I do tend to fix electrical things if they don't need special parts from the manufacturer or special tools to take apart. For example, the dehumidifier motor froze up, so I opened it up and lubricated it. Things like light switches are a breeze to replace.

I also clear the drain pipes. (The bathroom and shower drains get clogged every so often.) I've replaced washers in faucets, but one time I did that and it still leaked. I called in a plumber to do other work and asked him to dress the valve seat, but he insisted that the faucet needed replacing. So I let him do it.

But it takes time to do some things. Like we paid some guys to come in and replace all our windows. Ditto with exterior painting. And I didn't want to be without a toilet for even a half hour, so I had ours replaced by a plumber.

Perseverance annoys my wife. Finally she put her foot down and insisted that we get a new vacuum cleaner. Apparently she was sick of using the old one with the duct-taped hose and the broken cord retractor. :)

I just hate to see anything wasted, really.

Oh, and the weight reporting as "data".... I intend to do a graph at the six month mark. ;)

The fix it, perservance thing is a two sided coin isn't it? We also are working on hiring out when we are able to afford it... realizing that my hubby doesn't have time/energy to fix everything or take on each new project.

He just built bookshelves and mantle around our fireplace and it looks gorgeous. Love what he can do, but hate the time it takes.

Good thing your wife knows when to put her foot down.(I'm working on that myself). Hope she's enjoying her new "duct tapeless" vacuum cleaner.

My daughter inherited the engineering gene and used to make all sorts of things out of duct tape when she was a kid. Duct tape, actually any kind of tape, was her fav. toy.

Marrying into a family full of engineers and having the gene filter down to my kid has fascinated me...no engineering genes are in my family tree.
