Figuratively Speaking, of Course...

...I pulled supper out of my ass again, figuratively speaking, of course.

My wife, experiencing nausea since May 29, was in no condition to even think about food tonight, never mind cook it. And she stopped shopping for food long ago, too.

So I rushed home to do the Mr. Mom thing. Cooked some turkey sausages with Vidalia onions, steamed some green beans and boiled some gluten-free pasta. My wife did feel well enough earlier in the day to make pesto, so I used that to top the pasta.

Everything came out great. But my wife barely touched the sausage.

Now, what am I gonna do about supper tomorrow? I will not serve fast food at our house.

I get all that! I don't grocery shop much -- sometimes I'll run around the corner to the store for a couple of things for dinner if I'm having a great day and feel like fixing dinner. I don't cook much -- for a variety of reasons but trying to do more.

The days when I do cook, I spend hours in the kitchen - for fifteen minutes at a pop and the rest, then another few minutes, then rest. Dinner can be a whole-day process.

But thinking up what to fix for meals is the worst part!!

sounds like you really ARE doing the mr. mom thing - which has to be lovely for your wife since she's feeling sick (hope she feels better soon!!)..what to cook? I have always hated that question - and when my kids were little and they'd ask: "what's for dinner?" ugh..let's just say that I taught them NOT to ask - grin. hey sp guy, i'm VERY glad you explained that you were talking FIGURATIVELY - if you hadn't mentioned that I would have had to assume that YOUR odd cooking process was the cause of your wife not feeling well..

Hi Sherlock:

It seemed like my wife could devote a whole day to food, without resting!

If she wasn't actually cooking something, she was washing vegetables, or shopping for ingredients, or looking through cookbooks.

But I understand that -- I could do it, too!

Hi Rummuser:

Thanks for commenting!

We sometimes do have soup for supper during the cooler months. We eat fruit at the beginning of breakfast and for snacks. I usually have salad greens with my lunch.

Even as I follow the Blood Type diet, I do research other eating plans. But many are geared for us Westerners who expect a main course, rather than just soups, salads or fruit which are considered side dishes.

Also, I tend to do better with a meal that's high in protein and low in carbs. I used to be a sickly vegetarian, relying on grains to fill me up.

Hi Ribbon:

There was a time I wouldn't eat turkey sausage either.

Thanks for wishing me well in the kitchen. Fortunately, Mrs. SP has discovered the cause of the nausea and has taken over the responsibility of making supper.

I still need to figure out breakfast, though! (They do make turkey breakfast sausage, BTW. Hahah)

Hi Karen:

Thanks for commenting!

These days it pays to write clearly, and indicate when one is not being literal. I'm thinking now of the video of a Japanese man peeling a banana between his buttocks.

Fortunately, Mrs. SP no longer is nauseous, despite that fact that she ate a little bit of what I prepared.
